Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) in Sarasota, FL

Skin and underlying tissues around the upper and lower eyelids will inevitably begin to succumb to gravity’s effects over time. This happens to almost everyone with age, but many find that their confidence and sense of self-image diminish as these concerns continue to worsen. Fortunately, a blepharoplasty, also referred to as eyelid surgery or an eyelid lift, was explicitly designed to restore the upper or lower eyelids to look considerably younger.

Dr. Kristopher Hamwi, Florida Plastic Surgery and Medspa’s board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon, is an eyelid surgery expert who has helped many patients recapture their youth through the procedure. Through passion, empathy, and expert training, Dr. Hamwi dedicates his time to helping others achieve a more youthful appearance and confidence.

What is Blepharoplasty Surgery?

Performed either on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, blepharoplasty aims to enhance the eyelids aesthetically. This facial plastic surgery procedure must be conducted by an expertly trained plastic surgeon with an elevated awareness of human facial anatomy.

Eyelid surgery is most frequently performed to address concerns such as:

  • Lax skin that creates folds or disrupts upper eyelid’s natural contour, sometimes impairing vision
  • Fatty deposits in the form of puffiness in and around the eyelids
  • Under-eye bags
  • Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris
  • Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

What are the Benefits of Eyelid Surgery in Sarasota?

Dr. Hamwi’s expertise in blepharoplasty surgery allows his patients to enjoy some outstanding results.

Each patient’s journey will be unique, but some of the most frequent benefits include:

One of the most prevalent reasons for seeking a blepharoplasty procedure is to reduce the appearance of under-eye bags, which are typically caused by lower eyelid fat prolapse. This condition causes the eyes to look puffy, which in turn can make you look tired, sad, or not yourself. Eyelid lifts can correct this and remove these bags with very minimal scarring.

Removing excess fat from beneath the eyes and repositioning fat can eliminate dark circles and soften a patient’s overall appearance.

In severe cases, excess skin in the upper eyelid can often be draped over the eyelashes, resulting in obstructed peripheral vision. This sagging can stem from age, excessive sun exposure, genetics, or other factors but can be corrected through eyelid surgery.

With blepharoplasty, patients will see an improvement in diminished under-eye volume and a reversal of the tired, aged look that results from lower eyelid hollowing.

Upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty can remove excess fat and skin from the eyelids and its surrounding areas. In doing so, blepharoplasty can help reveal a rejuvenated appearance as well as an enhanced eye shape.

As the folds of skin around the eyes will be reduced, you will no longer experience uncomfortable rubbing or irritation.

Blepharoplasty diminishes some fine lines around the outer corners and lower eyelids. This can be done by lifting the lid and removing excess skin around the eyes. However, this procedure is not solely intended to reduce wrinkles.

Whatever your unique concerns are, Dr. Hamwi’s approach aims to make you look more rested, youthful, and refreshed. Best of all, your procedure can be tailored to target your unique needs.

Who is a Good Candidate for Sarasota Eyelid Surgery?

The most suitable candidates for the procedure are those who struggle with any of the conditions mentioned above. That said, Dr. Hamwi still needs to make sure prospective blepharoplasty patients:

  • Do not have any significant medical conditions that are dangerous or would hinder the surgical results.
  • Do not smoke.
  • Can maintain a positive outlook on the procedure.
  • Do not have eye infections.
  • Want to undergo the operation for the right reasons.

If you believe this procedure can help you gain the look and confidence you deserve, your next step is to schedule a one-on-one meeting with Dr. Hamwi!

What Happens During Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid Surgery is an outpatient surgery performed at an accredited surgical center under general or local anesthesia. Dr. Hamwi customizes every surgical procedure for each patient, which means every operation will vary.

That said, there will be several steps included in each procedure:

First, you will be given anesthesia by a certified anesthesia provider. You will discuss the best method beforehand, go under anesthesia, and then move to an operating room where the surgery will commence. Often upper eyelid surgery can be performed in the office under local anesthesia.

The incision lines for eyelid surgery are designed to be concealed within the eyelid region’s natural structures or on the inside of the eyelid.

Upper eyelid surgery can be done through an incision within the natural crease on the eyelid, allowing for the repositioning, removal, or tightening of fat deposits, muscles, and excess skin. Lower eyelid surgery can be performed with an incision beneath the lower lash line. Through this incision, excess skin in the lower eyelid is removed, and excess fat can be repositioned or removed. Dr. Hamwi may use alternative techniques based on your specified goals.

Lastly, Dr. Hamwi will close your incisions and move you to a recovery room. Here, our team will closely monitor you until you awaken on your own. You can then have someone drive you home the same day.
