We will provide an after-treatment kit and instructions on how to remove the peel at home at the appropriate time. Then, you will apply creams multiples times a day as instructed for the next 30 days.
The effects of a cosmelan peel hinge on the commitment you make to your at-home care.

What Can I Expect During a Chemical Peel?
For optimal results, our MedSpa experts customize all chemical peel treatments to achieve your aesthetic goals. However, here are some general steps to expect.
Before Your Chemical Peel
For safety and optimal results, we recommend preparing your skin for four to six weeks before your chemical peel. Having a consistent skin care routine can enhance your treatment’s effectiveness and protect your complexion.
For at least a week before your chemical peel, you may need to:
- Avoid exfoliation, sun exposure, and waxing
- Stop using anti-aging products or anti-acne medications
- Stay hydrated
Chemical Peel Aftercare
For the first two to three days, your face may be slightly red, as if you have a sunburn. For the next three to five days, your skin will peel. Your skin may feel rough until the peeling process finishes. To speed healing, keep your skin moisturized with a neutral, unscented cream or lotion. Soon, you should start noticing a smoother, blemish-free complexion revealing itself.
Following your chemical peel, you should avoid exercise, saunas, tanning beds, and excessive sweating for at least one to two weeks. Increased blood flow to the face can exaggerate side effects, and sweating can irritate the skin. Instead, wait until the skin has finished peeling to prevent damaging the skin and scarring.
As your skin will be very fragile, it’s important to avoid direct sunlight for at least 3 months after a chemical peel. Wear sunblock with an SPF of 30+ to avoid undoing the results of your peel with additional damage.
Avoid using harsh exfoliants and products, either manual or chemical, for two weeks or until your skin is healed. Over-exfoliating may irritate your skin and lead to sensitivity or redness.
Most patients achieve optimal results from at least 3 to 5 treatments scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart. Follow your aesthetician’s post-treatment instructions to ensure proper healing and optimal results. You may also require periodic maintenance sessions to sustain your results.

Chemical Peel FAQs
During your chemical peel consultation, our aesthetician may recommend a pre-peel skincare plan to enhance your results and minimize your risk of side effects.
First, your skin will be cleansed and prepared for treatment. Then, the peel will be applied quickly and evenly and left on your skin for the appropriate time. After the peel is removed, your skin will be treated with cool compresses and moisturized with lotion or cream to soothe the skin.
You will receive thorough aftercare instructions to follow once you are home.
How often you can repeat a chemical peel depends on the depth of the peel itself. You may repeat light or mild peels every 2 to 5 weeks. Chemical peels may require 3 to 5 treatments to achieve your desired results. A person can only have one deep chemical peel.
There is no downtime following a light peel. However, you may experience a few days of downtime after a medium peel. A deep peel requires downtime of 2 to 3 weeks.
As your skin heals, you will begin to see results. Healing time depends on the depth of peel and the condition of your skin. However, recovery ranges from 1 day for a light or refreshing peel to 2 weeks or longer for a deep peel.
Patients typically achieve optimal results from 3 to 5 peels scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart, depending on the depth of the peel. We may also recommend maintenance sessions to sustain your results.
The results of a chemical peel vary, depending on your skin’s condition and the depth of the peel. Most light peels deliver results that last 1 to 2 months. Mild peel results may last for up to 6 months. Deep peel results may last up to 10 years or longer.
To avoid significant side effects, choose an experienced and educated aesthetician who can help you select the appropriate level of peel for your skin. Depending on the peel, your side effects should be mild. Some side effects may include:
- Redness that lasts for months
- Temporary skin color changes
- Scarring
- Infection
If you don’t follow your provider’s instructions, you can dramatically increase your risk of side effects. To avoid this risk:
- Always use sun protection
- Care for your skin as instructed
- Avoid scratching or picking the treated skin
- Don’t wear makeup before recommended
