Microneedling in Sarasota, FL | Dr. Kristopher Hamwi
Collagen is an essential building block of healthy, glowing skin, but your body’s production of this structural protein declines with age. Microneedling is a tried-and-true treatment that encourages collagen production with minimal discomfort and downtime. In as little as one treatment, you can start noticing improvements.
Healthy, youthful-looking skin is the foundation of your aesthetic journey. At Florida Plastic Surgery and MedSpa, our certified PA, Sia, can help you reclaim your ideal appearance, accomplish your aesthetic goals, and boost your confidence.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses your skin’s natural repair system to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, texture, pore size, mild scars, and more. A microneedling device creates tiny pinpoint wounds in targeted areas. As a result, your body’s collagen and elastin will go into overdrive to heal these micro-injuries, which improves your skin’s overall condition.
Suitable for all skin types, microneedling procedures produce smoother, healthier skin with little downtime and minimal discomfort. Your provider will apply a topical numbing anesthetic to ensure comfort. While safe, effective microneedling procedures have little to no downtime, you should expect some mild, sunburn-like redness for 24 to 48 hours.
The best microneedling in Sarasota can target:
- Fine lines or wrinkles
- Acne, surgical, or other scarring
- Melasma, or other skin discoloration
- Enlarged pores
- Reduced skin elasticity
- Uneven skin tone
For best results, microneedling typically requires a series of three to five appointments scheduled a month apart. Optimal results are visible four to six weeks after the last treatment.
Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?
Generally, the candidates for microneedling skin rejuvenation treatments are men and women who are looking to enhance their appearance and boost their confidence with minimally invasive aesthetic treatments.
Florida microneedling candidates should:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be non-smokers, or willing to quit
- Live a healthy lifestyle, including an exercise program and healthy diet
- Have no significant medical conditions
- Understand the risks of the treatment
- Have a positive outlook and realistic goals
- Be ready to closely follow instructions
Issues that might disqualify you for microneedling treatments include:
- Severely sagging skin, deep wrinkles, or significant jowls
- Being pregnant or breastfeeding
- Taking blood-thinning medications
- A history of alcohol or drug misuse
- An active skin infection or acne breakout
What Can I Expect During a Microneedling Treatment?
Your microneedling experience will be unique to you because our MedSpa experts will customize your treatments based on your needs and goals. Here are some general steps to expect.
Preparing for Your Microneedling Treatment
Preparing for your microneedling treatment should begin well before your appointment.
During your consultation, inform your microneedling specialist if you have:
- A history of cold sores – we will provide medication to treat them
- Keloidal scarring
- Metal or skin allergies
- Taken Accutane within the past six months
Before your appointment, you should avoid:
- Sun exposure, including tanning beds, for at least one month before and after your treatment
- Exfoliating products, including retinoids, scrubs, and glycolic acids, for a week
- Taking NSAID medications or herbal supplements that may cause bleeding or bruising
- Drinking alcohol for at least 24 to 48 hours
- Smoking, vaping, or using any nicotine products for at least 24 to 48 hours
Once our team has greeted you, our microneedling specialists will evaluate you, ensure you are comfortable, and answer any last-minute questions.
Before beginning your microneedling treatment, your provider may apply a topical numbing agent that will take 10 to 15 minutes to activate.
Typically, microneedling procedures take 30 minutes, depending on the treatment area and your unique procedural plan. You may experience pressure or the mild vibrating sensation of the device rather than pain or discomfort.
If you are having any other spa services performed simultaneously, we may give you additional directions to follow.
For 24 to 48 hours after your microneedling treatment, your skin may appear slightly pink to red before starting to flake or peel. This redness will resolve on its own.
During your consultation, we will help you develop a post-procedural skin care regimen, including applying frequent moisturizer to prevent your skin from drying out. Because your skin will be more sensitive to UV damage, you should apply SPF of 30+ daily. Wear hats and protective clothing if direct sunlight is unavoidable.
Patients typically achieve the best microneedling results following a series of three to five appointments scheduled a month apart, with optimal improvements visible at four to six weeks after the last session.
After microneedling treatment, you can immediately resume most of your daily responsibilities. However, here are some activities you should postpone:
- Wearing makeup for at least 24 hours
- Vigorous exercise for about a week – light walks and gentle stretches are OK 24 to 48 hours later
- Heat exposure, including hot showers, baths, or saunas, for approximately a week
- Harsh exfoliating products, including retinoids, scrubs, and glycolic acids, for a week
- Alcohol and nicotine for approximately a week
- Taking NSAID pain medications – if you experience any discomfort, take Tylenol
