What Is PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is harvested from a patient’s own blood. It consists of the liquid portion of the blood and a specific type of cell called platelets. Once you have been greeted by our team, you will be evaluated by our injection specialists. We will ensure you are comfortable and answer any last minute questions before beginning your PRP procedure.
Depending upon your procedure, a topical numbing agent may be applied to your skin that takes 30 minutes to activate.
First, your PRP provider will draw your blood like they would for any blood test. Then, they’ll separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood with a centrifuge. After your blood has been processed, your provider will begin injecting the PRP into the treatment areas.
Typically, the process takes between 45 to 60 minutes.
If you are having any other skincare treatments simultaneously, you may have other procedural instructions.
You may experience some soreness or tenderness at the injection site for a few days following your PRP therapy treatment. Typically, these effects only last a few days and will resolve on their own. Depending on your PRP injection site or accompanying treatments, you may have other aftercare requirements.
PRP injection therapy typically consists of a series of three to five treatments scheduled four to six weeks apart with results four to six weeks after the last treatment.
