Botox & Fillers in Sarasota with Dr. Kristopher Hamwi

During our lifetime, our facial skin can undergo many changes. Loss of collagen, bone, or fat due to the aging process and environmental factors, such as sun exposure and pollution, are just some of the causes of skin changes. Fine lines and wrinkles are often the result.

However, some wrinkles and frown lines are not caused by age. Wrinkles can also be formed by repetitive movements and muscle contractions, meaning younger adults can develop wrinkles too.

When it’s time for you to smooth the look of your fine lines or severe wrinkles, Botox® and dermal fillers might provide the solution you’re looking for to rejuvenate your youthful appearance with natural-looking and long-lasting results.

What are Botox & Fillers?

Botox and dermal fillers are injectable cosmetic treatments that seek to restore a natural and youthful-looking appearance without producing a look that’s overdone. However, while each treatment is similar in concept, they work very differently:

Botox

Botox is a neuromodulator that temporarily blocks signals to muscles that lie beneath the affected skin. By inhibiting these muscles, they begin to relax and weaken, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Botox is used to treat areas around the eyes and also to improve the appearance of the neck.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are safe for most patients as they are formulated from substances, such as hyaluronic acid, that naturally occur in our bodies, eliminating many sensitivity issues. Some fillers are synthetically made to mimic these substances and help to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production.

What are the Benefits of Sarasota Botox & Fillers?

Eventually, we all face inevitable changes as our facial skin ages. These physical changes can affect our self-esteem and confidence. However, Botox and fillers may help to restore skin’s youthful appearance, slowing the signs of aging.

Dr. Hamwi’s approach with both Botox and fillers is to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and restore lost volume, giving you a rejuvenated look. Under the highly trained hands of Dr. Hamwi, you’ll experience drastic improvements without an overdone appearance.

Sarasota, FL, Botox & Fillers Treatment FAQs

The cost of Botox and Filler treatments depends on a number of factors, including the number of injections and areas treated as determined in your procedural plan. During your consultation, Dr. Hamwi will provide an estimate for a more accurate cost of Botox & Fillers in Sarasota.

Botox and Filler procedures are usually fast and painless with minimal discomfort and downtime. However, be sure to address your concerns about pain with Dr. Hamwi before your procedure.

Botox takes several days to begin working. For most people, they will start seeing results at 5-7 days with full effect around 10 days.

Absolutely not, Botox injections can be tailored to give natural results.

On the day of your injection, you may have small raised bumps at the injection sites. This will fade by the end of the day. While uncommon, it is possible to develop minor bruising at injection sites as well.

Everyone is a candidate for Botox! Botox can be used to reduce wrinkles you may already have or slow wrinkles from forming.

There is no restriction on office work but, you do want to avoid going to the gym for 1 day following injections.

You must avoid aspirin for 2 weeks before injection or the risk of bruising is much higher.

Botox and Dysport both come from a neurotoxin protein that works by relaxing facial muscles. However, a single unit of Botox is about 3 times the potency of a unit of Dysport. This does not mean Botox works better, but that more Dysport is needed to achieve the same effect. Dysport will show effects sooner than Botox, about 4-5 days. The price of a unit of Dysport is less than a unit of Botox, so you will end of spending about the same amount of money for similar results.

Botox and Xeomin are similar in that they are both Botulinum Toxin Type A Neuromodulators but, Xeomin has a slightly different chemical composition so that people who do not respond as well to Botox may see improved results with Xeomin.

FDA approved areas include the forehead, in between/around the brows and the eyes. Botox has been used safely in other areas of the face and neck but is not FDA approved.

The more active you are, the faster the medication will wear off. Typically, Botox lasts 3-5 months.

Yes, Botox does not paralyze normal facial movements. As the effects of Botox gradually appear, muscle contractions and wrinkles will slowly dissipate. After 3-5 months the medication will begin to wear off and the return of these unwanted muscle contractions and wrinkles will reappear.

Dermal fillers can be used to add volume to various areas of the face or to fill in deep wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that attracts and holds water. It is one of the most commonly used fillers because it is soft and can be safely injected in and close under to the surface of the skin where it can have more effect.

At your filler appointment, you will begin by discussing your goals and creating a personalized treatment plan. Before dermal filler treatments, our injectors will numb the area if requested. Depending on your treatment, the process may range from 20-60 minutes.

You will see your filler results immediately! Often there will be some swelling which may take a few days to dissipate. Filler is designed to last different amounts of time. This can be 6 months to 2 years or longer. Typically the softer the filler the shorter it lasts. People who are very active will also notice their filler does not last as long. Areas of the face that move, like the lips, tender to have shorter filler results.

Anywhere from 5 months to 2 years, depending on the filler.

Fillers cannot be used as an alternative to a facelift! The goal of a “liquid facelift” is to reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles or to restore lost volume in the face that happens as we age. Schedule a free consultation with us to explore what treatment plan is best for you!

Lip Augmentation FAQS

There are many different kinds of fillers available for lip enhancement. The right filler can be determined by your personal goals. Typically, softer fillers that are composed of HA are best for lips as they give soft, supple, and smooth results.

Lip fillers are not a permanent solution for lip enhancement. Depending on your anatomy, you may be a candidate for lip lift, which is a permanent surgical alternative. There are also long term filler options such as Sculptra that build natural collagen over time.

Juvederm Vollure is the newest product on the market and is projected to last 18 months.

There are multiple factors that should be considered in order to achieve natural looking lips including correct product selection, overfilling lips with product, incorrect placement of product and poor injection technique. Be sure to go to an experienced injector for optimal results!

Start small! A 1mL syringe of filler is a good place to start and for many patients gives them the results they desire. As you live with your results you can decide what look you are trying to achieve.

Severe allergic reactions to lip fillers are rare, but remain a possibility. In some cases, patients can be allergic to Hyaluronic acid or Polylactic acid (PLA).

Board certified Plastic Surgeons, dermatologists, PAs, NPs and Registered Nurses are legally allowed to perform injections. Finding a fully qualified specialist who is experienced in lip fillers will give you a greater chance of loving your lip enhancement!

Side effects include swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the site of injection. Let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores, as this procedure may reactive herpes simplex. Avoiding aspirin for 2 weeks before your procedure is necessary for preventing bleeding and bruising of the lips.
